Whistler Snowboarding with Family!

In Whistler Canada with two of my children (KC and Aleks) snowboarding together. We are so blessed to be able to live in a place that is so beautiful. Two must do apres riding is Hys with garlic cheese toast. During riding on the mountain, the Crystal Hut for Blue Berry Waffles is a must! Hiking the and launching over the log on the mountain side above Glacier and beside Crystal chair was awesome. We rode boxes and did jumps too. In the evening we watched the Canucks win! A great way to kick off the Christmas season together.

Saving the Ferrets

While visiting Colorado I was able to try and save a few ferrets that had contracted H1N1. My quest is to find a simple and rapid treatment for the next pandemic.....which will occur in a matter of time....not if but when. May we be ready and have a treatment in the gap between spread and vaccine preparation. Slow the speeding train while we diddle on the tracks.....

McItaly!

For my faithful followers and those that know that the happiest place on earth for me is Micky D's. During DC runs, I have: been a listening father, a marriage counselor, on spouse date, had morning devotionals, business meetings and arbitrator! So finding "Tera Misu" at McDonald's in Rome Italy was heaven! LOL

Garden of Gethsemane

This is a 1,000+ year old olive tree. Did you know that olive trees rarely die? They just keep sending shoots off from the roots and trunk. It was a peaceful place and had a wonderful experience looking back towards the East Wall of the Old City of Jerusalem......

Golgatha, place of the Skull

This view is from the Garden Tomb in Jerusalem. Without much imagination you can truly see a skull outline and shadows....pretty creepy.

Western Wall

A wonderful opportunity to approach the Western Wall in Jerusalem to pray. My Israeli friend asked me which God I prayed to? My answer was to which ever will listen to me....

What am I doing in Uganda?

Special Building Built for the Study
I have volunteered to help with a study at the Jinja Regional children's Hospital to treat children with severe malaria which causes comas. Most of the team comes from Toronto and they are all climbing Kilimanjaro to help raise funds for the study. I am here to relieve them and hold the fort until they come back. It is very rewarding to help out and work side by side with the Ugandan medical staff. Did you know malaria still kills over 2,000 children a day in Africa? If you are interested to know more about the study please go to the U-tube link below.

Main st and Dirt road you can find Siddi Barbershop

Siddi Barbershop Entrance
This Indian barber called Siddi came highly recommended... I am always a little cautious when entering a dark enclave in a foreign country. Ancient worn leather chair reminded me of childhood hair cuts. Barber reminded me of protagonists from the Khyber Pass in Tom Clancy novels. No blue container of antiseptic, old grimy sponge used on all clients and no smiles from Siddi! I was tres nervous when the straight blade came out to do side burns and behind the ears and neck. Style was very Indian and surprisingly good after a wade of gel when i got to the hotel.... but hey not bad for a buck ninety two!!!!

Do you hate your job?

Ok, if you think your job sucks, think again...
I have been watching this guy use a regular weed wacker to mow this gigantic
field for 2 days from dawn until dusk. No gloves, no ear plugs and no eye
protection. Plus the chances of him getting some parasite in the
grass is high!
Life is good in Canada eh?!!

Uganda Malaria Nitric Oxide Research

Arrived in Entebbe, spent the night in the Emin Pasha Hotel in Kampala, then to Jinja "the source of the Nile.
Admission first couple of hours that I arrived so jumped right into the research mode despite Jet lag (never have worried about that)!
Insane thunder and torrential rains. Scared the wits out of me! Over 200 deaths due to lightning strikes this month.

Mountain biking

My son Aleks and I go every summer to mountain bike on the slopes of Whistler is nothing short of exhilarating! Taking lessons is well worth it and saves one from excessive thrills and spills. Taking the lifts up and riding the trails with drops and jumps is great fun. However, watching my 13 year old jumping the gap on the trail called "Heart of Darkness" was almost too much to watch....

Grey Rock Mountain

This was a great hike after doing research at Fort Collins. Came across a rattle snake stretched across the path and almost stepped on it. Found this nice lake at the summit and I waded out to the rock in the middle. Also went river rafting on the River Poudre.

Nulango the Cleaning Lady

Nulango is a special name that is given to a woman who gives birth to twins. Their name is changed to Nulango when this happens as a great honor. This wonderful woman cleans the research clinical building every day in Jinja. Her smile is infectious. I am wearing a shirt given to me by the staff here in Jinja. Many a passer-byer says " that's a smart shirt sar!"

Jerry Can Boys!

On the Nile River there are rapids and waterfalls. We went to observe the falls and were approached by young men soliciting sponsorship.... They proposed that for a fee they would jump into the river and ride down the rapids and falls while holding their "Jerry cans." This seemed and bit risky and when I suggested that I did not want to be a party to this the young man plead with me that this was his job and to further convince me, offered not to take my money until he returned! He obviously missed my concern for his life and instead thought it was about money..... yikes. His physique was such that I figured if anyone could survive he could. I caved in and let him risk his life in exchange for 5 bucks. How much would someone have to pay me to do this????

Drag Racing!

Okay this is too cool. These are dragsters with V8 engines on a 1/8 mile track. Sounds and feels like power power power! When that "Christmas tree" cycles down through the yellows and you punch the pedal on the green....the force throws you back, the throaty scream of the engine vibrates through your soul! Thsi picture is of KC, Aleks and Joe racing against each other!
